Updated Speed Limit On Mill Hill Test Route

Over the weekend, there has been a change in the speed limit on one of the roads used for the Mill Hill and Hendon DVSA routes examiner assess learners.

The A1 dual carriageway between Apex Corner Mill Hill and Sterling Roundabout now has a flat speed of 50mph (changed from part 50 and 70).

I will upload a video soon showing the changes and advising candidates on how to deal with this section of road commonly used on the driving test.



Don't forget the highway code is the standard expected, so master it as it could save you from make a simple error that would result in failure, revise it when not taking practical lessons!

Transport for London is currently conducting some roadworks at the Mill Hill circus multi-lane roundabout, so you need to be extra careful when approaching this junction which used to be controlled by traffic lights.

There is now some pedestrian lights on the southern approach, but normal roundabout rules apply on the other approaches.

4 Same Minor Faults Equals Serious and Test Fail

As a learner driver candidate you need to be aware that it is possible to fail the driving test if you commit the same minor driving error more than 3 times while being assessed by the Mill Hill DSA examiners.

I have sat on many tests where this has happened, on the other hand I have also seen learners not get serious driving test faults and be marked 4 minors in the same category but this is not common so do not think that you have been cheated if fail with 4 minors for things like mirror checks, signals or stalling the car.

Please note that the DSA does not pay compensation to canddates for Driving Tests that are cancelled due to bad weather such as Snow, Ice and Fog so try to call in advance if conditions are not good, as your instructor may still charge you for his time if the appointment does not go ahead.

Mini Roundabouts in Mill Hill

To have a very good chance of passing the driving test at Mill Hill in London, you need to be very confident of dealing with all types of junctions, especially roundabouts.

Hardest Driving Test Route Mill Hill London 2011

If you really want to pass the UK driving test at the DSA test centre in Bunns Lane NW7 London, then you need to do more than just be a good driver, since this is one of the hardest places to pass in London with a pass rate of just 34%. Being properly prepared and trained is a good starting place for anyone, however I can tell you that in real life to pass the UK practical car test here you need some local knowledge and a bit of insider information to help guarantee success.

5 Tips To Help Pass The Driving Test at Mill Hill

Here are 5 important tips to help you pass the driving test at the DSA centre in Mill Hill. They are useful for other locations as well, so do not think that they will only work in London.



1. You need the right attitude to pass the driving test. I have been in this learner driver training instructor business for a long time, and I have seen my fair share of candidates who have turned up and think they know it all just because they can confidently drive a car! The DSA examiners can within the first 5 minutes of you starting the vehicle sense what type of driver you are. To pass the driving test you need to drive the way the DSA says you should, and not the way your dad, friend taught you or says is ok.
You do not have to take professional driving lessons to pass the driving test, but they will greatly improve your chances especially if you have been taught to drive by family or friends. The other option is to buy one of the official DSA guides that explains what the examiners will be looking for.
The examiners is Mill Hill are strict, and will fail you if you do not meet the required standard, especially if you have an attitude problem.

2. The next tip is to deal with all your weaknesses, before your driving test date. There is no point in turning up at the driving test centre if you are not confident doing the reverse round the corner exercise. Leaving your test late till a few weeks before your theory test certificate expires is not a good idea, as I have seen many candidates think more about what will happen if they do not succeed compared to just trying to do their best on the test.



4. Practice, Practice and more Practise! There is a lot to cover: Junctions, dual carriageways, country roads, understanding road markings and signs, so do not leave your preparations to the last week before your appointment and try and cram things in.

5. Get some knowledge of the local area where the driving test will take place. For this tip to be of use, you need to either be an experienced driver who can deal with the unexpected safely, or ask a qualified driving instructor to point out some of the more tricky parts of the local test routes as used by the examiners. I am not saying you should just memorise routes, but there are some locations that can easily trip up an inexperienced learner, and having an instructor point this out, and explain how do do these safely will not only help pass the driving test, but could help you avoid being in an accident once you are out on the roads unsupervised.
I have for example made a video of one of the tougher routes in Mill Hill because even experienced drivers can not handle some situations safely, how much more drivers with only 40 hours of tution!

Just yesterday I was told of another learner who had failed the driving test in mill hill during rush hour due to a silly mistake coming out of the gate within minutes of starting the practical car test.

The learner and his instructor who were not familiar with the area did not know the procedure about keeping to the left when approaching the automatic car barrier even if turning RIGHT onto the main road.
